SLO Socialists and Marxists:
Here’s a hero of yours attacking Big Oil
I know many of you in San Luis Obispo lean way, way to the left, and would love the idea of nationalizing the big bad oil companies, whom you idiotically blame for high gas prices (FYI: high prices are a direct result of environmentalists). While the government has not been able to manage anything properly yet, I’m sure you think they can do a bang up job with oil. Have a listen to the always-brilliant, Congresswoman Marxist Maxine Waters telling the evil Big Oil execs how she wants take over their companies, and you’ll get a feel for the intelligence of those who would take control. She is an embarrassment to the nation, along with other California fools like Barbara Boxer, but I’m afraid she is likely a hero of many of you.

This woman, along with John Kohl and the rest of that gang of thugs, has absolutely no right to govern. They should be stripped from their offices.

Some of the Marxists/Totalitarians aren’t able to wait for BO to get elected. Ms. Waters is pretty much a joke but recent rulings by the US and CA Supremes are not.
That aside, environmentalists are certainly part of the mix that is limiting domestic oil, especially in ANWR, but their impact on rising price is not that great IMHO. Perhaps if we could get a serious energy policy in place, which includes domestic oil and nuclear, there would be some downward pressure by the players to lessen the incentives to move from oil. That (dropping prices) worked in the past (70’s) and may again if we are foolish enough to fall for it.
IMO the price rise is mainly due the national oil “companies” (not capitalist “big oil”) testing the market price for crude. That, combined with increased demand and some market distortion by speculators, created a perfect storm leading to higher prices.
We in the US probably have the ability to absorb the current price. We’ll complain and whine but just move a higher percentage of our budget to fuel and the overall increase cost of goods in general. It will be up to the expanding markets to just say no and perhaps bring down the price some to encourage their addiction to oil.
There are some silver linings to the dark cloud of higher gas prices:
0 will make alternatives more competitive
0 may lead to more domestic sources that need the higher price to support development/extraction and overcoming the environmental nuisance law suits (greedy bastards!), NIMBYs, and political hurtles
0 will encourage the next round of efficiency improvements
0 lessen exposure to external economic threats (the National Security issue)
0 some would include reducing wars for oil but I doubt this is true. If someone effectively uses oil as a weapon war will become popular in a hurry.
0 will slow or even lower CO2 emissions (while I think this is bogus as far as a Global Warming issue lots of folks will be enamored of this) mainly with the increase roll nuclear power will play spurred on by higher prices of natural gas and demand for electricity to support alternatives to gasoline for transportation (electric cars, hydrogen as a transport medium for energy(not a fuel really))
