The Silly, Silly Tribune on American Idol

The Tribune was out with its Bouquets and Brickbats on Friday, and the following was the very last item:

At long last, a new ‘Idol’ is crowned

Local “American Idol” loyalists earn an ultra-long-lasting bouquet for hanging in there for what seemed like an interminable season. We gave up when Australian Michael Johns got the boot.

Now that “A. I.” is over, time to move on. Fergie, anyone?

Huh?

First of all, why are they even taking the time to address American Idol? There are so many more important things that the paper seemingly does not have the column inches to cover. But, secondly, they should presume that we had as bad of taste as they did in picking your favorites and that we need to be commended for sticking with it all. And thirdly, are they out of their mind in their comments they made?

This season’s American Idol did not seem like an “interminable season.” It’s was the same length as the previous ones and, in fact, probably the best ever, in terms of talent. And then, to pick up the ball and go home after their favorite, Michael Johns was voted off? Come on, he was okay, but in no way compared with those who outlasted him.

Idol got it right this season, picking the best-ever winner, David Cook. He’s versatile, creative, intelligent, personable, and a fricken awesome singer. He’s so good, I’d hoped he’s get the number 2 spot so he would not be under the American Idol contract.

Come on, Trib, please try a bit harder to be a serious newspaper. Then we’ll only have to laugh at your inept reporting, and not also your poor attempt at humor and your bad taste in music.

Here’s a video of David Cook, singing a Chris Cornell arrangement of Billy Jean, for those of you who might not have heard him before:

By the way, who uses the term Brickbat anymore anyway?
