SLO Costco Should install Wind Power on their Roof
If you’ve ever been to Costco on Los Osos Valley Road in San Luis Obispo, you know how windy it gets there. It comes howling down the Los Osos valley from the coast at Los Osos right through the Costco shopping complex. I’ve been to Costco maybe hundred times and I don’t believe there was ever a visit that was not accompanied with some good amount of wind. It’s constant and it’s forceful. So, every time I go there I think to myself, if they put some windmills/wind turbines on the roof, they could generate all the electricity and more to run their store.
I don’t even think the green NIMBY’s would object to this because I doubt this would be an eyesore as the homes in the area are for the most part at a lower elevation than the Costco roof, and the footprint of Costco is so large that they could be placed away from the perimeter of the building. The visual impact would be minimal. And anyways, environmentalists think Costco is ugly and green energy is beautiful, so in their eyes it should actually beautify the area (if only the greenies really felt this way when it’s near their homes though; just ask Ted Kennedy about the proposed windmills near his home in the Nantucket Sound).
I think it’s a great idea. It could work for Home Depot as well. We’ve got a constant source of energy right there, so let’s use it.
If anyone has any experience running numbers on wind energy, I’d be interested in your analysis.
