Get The Tribune headlines here
The Tribune newspaper of San Luis Obispo is a pretty crappy paper, but it’s all we’ve got here for daily news. The first section is a waste of money since we already get non-local news on the web these days. All that’s really left of interest are the other sections, just to keep up with some local news, and my favorite: to read the crackpot Letters to the Editor. But still, it’s not worth paying for. And I’m here to make sure you know that you don’t have to. You can get (most of ) it free.
Their website (SanLuisObispo.com) carries just about every article that the paper does, and they don’t charge for it. I believe the articles are only online for free for a week or so, but that’s just fine. However, navigating around the site just to take a quick look to see if there is anything of interest to read is not real quick. So, I’ve set up some pages here that will quickly show you the headlines of the articles. If you think you’d like to read the article, then just click the link and you will be taken to the story on the Trib’s site. I’ve got up the major sections and will add more shortly. In fact, I’m going to add headlines from other local news sites, blogs and classifieds sites over the next few weeks. You’ll be able to use it as your one stop spot each morning. You can get to it from the Local News and Classifieds link at the top right of this site.
An even better idea, which is what I do to read the headlines and first few sentences of the stories, is to set them all up in an RSS reader (I use Google Reader). Some of you likely don’t know what that is, so I’ll be putting up a how to article on exactly how to do this very soon.
