Avila Lighthouse Suites: What the Hell is that Thing in the View?
I love Avila Beach, and for the most part, I like all the changes to it as the new development has sprung up seemingly overnight. But as I walk along the boardwalk past the new Avila Lighthouse Suites hotel, I can’t help but think, What Were They Thinking! Take a look at the photo on the left. Notice that tall wooden structure in the center, the thing that looks kind of like a fancy lifeguard tower? What the hell is it doing there? It’s right in the middle of the view from the ocean-facing rooms and from the pool area. Really, what was the architect thinking when he put it there? Was he thinking “Gee, that ocean front view is kind of ugly, let’s stick something right smack in the middle of the view so they can look at it instead?” And what was the developer/owner thinking when it was proposed to them? Or how about this question: why don’t they rip it down now that they’ve seen how ugly and unnecessary it is?
Why do things like this bother me? Why don’t I just leave it alone? I can’t help it. When I see horrible decisions like this, just obvious mistakes, it just drives me crazy because I can’t understand the thought process. Maybe it’s my mission to help businesses be a little smarter, if they are smart enough to listen to me. I’ve got a whole list of these things you’ll see in the future; aren’t you thrilled?
