Alison Watt Jackson Says Stop the Fireworks!
In the Sunday edition of the Tribune, Alison Watt Jackson writes a Letter to the Editor called “Stop the Fireworks.” In it she implores Pismo Beach residents to call City Manager, Kevin Rice, to stop the Fourth of July fireworks because it’s threatening to residents, pets and the environment. She then goes on to list local animals that are protected under the Endangered Species Act and Migratory Bird Treaty Act. These animals include sea otters, steelhead trout, northern fur seals, American peregrine falcons, golden eagles, great blue herons, California brown pelicans and 200 species of birds. Whew. Those poor trout, I feel for them when those underwater fireworks go off and kill whole schools of them.
It’s environmental wackos like her that give environmentalism a bad name to those of us with some sense of proportion and common sense. If you’d just not place your cause above all else and keep a more balanced view of the world, we might pay some attention. But, single-minded people like you hurt your own cause. And for that, I crown you the Moron of the Day.
I do hope that those fireworks take out some water-polluting, head-bombing pigeons though.
