Three Fools in the Tribune’s Letters to the Editor
The fools were out in force today in the Letters to the Editor section of today’s Tribune.
Valerie Ferrario: She says more has to be done by President Bush to stop the killing in Darfur. She needs to direct her attention to the United Nations, which is blocking any attempts for troops to step in in any force. Why? Because the U.N., in addition to being run by criminals and Marxists, is led by the nose by the Islamic nations, which have no interest in slowing the growth of Islam, even by force.

Cyclists: Share the Road!
You’ve heard the saying, “Share the Road.” Well, it goes both ways: cyclists, listen up, you need to share the road with cars, too. Or someone is gonna get killed, and it won’t be the person shielded by thousands of pounds of metal. I swear, some of you are so rude, it’s almost as if you are asking to get hit. if you’re not careful, one day someone is going to oblige.

Don’t Open the Door to Magazine Salespeople!
If you see a stranger at your door, and he says he is selling magazines, best not to open the door.

Get The Tribune headlines here
The Tribune newspaper of San Luis Obispo is a pretty crappy paper, but it’s all we’ve got here for daily news. The first section is a waste of money since we already get non-local news on the web these days. All that’s really left of interest are the other sections, just to keep up with some local news, and my favorite: to read the crackpot Letters to the Editor. But still, it’s not worth paying for. And I’m here to make sure you know that you don’t have to. You can get (most of ) it free.

Check out the Keith Byrd Team SLO Real Estate Blog
There is an interesting blog on San Luis Obispo County real estate, put together by some local Realtors from Century 21 Hometown Realty. It’s the Keith Byrd Team San Luis Obispo Real Estate Blog, and headed up by local Keith Byrd. Keith and his bloggers post often and the items are pretty interesting. They include data, observations and other information about SLO real estate. Check it out.
He’s also got a lot of great information on things like local foreclosures and short sales on his SLOCountyHomes.com site.
San Luis Obispo is Second Least Affordable Market under 500,000 People
If the local Realtors are telling you that housing prices in San Luis Obispo are cheap now, and that you had better buy one now before they start moving up again, first read my article San Luis Obispo Real Estate is not a buy this Summer, and then keep in mind just how unaffordable SLO housing is still. According to the First Quarter 2008 National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index (HOI) released last month, San Luis Obispo-Paso Robles is the second least affordable market among metro areas smaller than 500,000 people. I can hear many of you saying it’s a reflection of how desirable the area is. I understand that’s a big factor, obviously. But to understand why it is not everything, think about who is the number one least affordable in this list: our neighbor to the north, Salinas — not exactly what most would consider high up in the desirability scale.
The NAHB/Wells Fargo HOI is a measure of the percentage of homes sold in a given area that are affordable to families earning that area’s median income during a specific quarter.
How to Opt Out of Charter’s Internet Spying Program
Lucky San Luis Obispo! We have been selected as a test market for a new Charter Communications advertiser program that will employ technology that tracks and keeps records of everything their internet customers do on the internet. Isn’t that exciting. And in classic Orwellian-speak, they are calling it an “enhanced online experience.”

Craigslist Prostitution is Alive and Well in SLO, but so are the Busts
In case you didn’t know, prostitution is alive and well in San Luis Obispo. To take a look at what there is to choose from, just go the the “Erotic” section of the SLO subarea of Craigslist. Obviously with all those ads, there must be a pretty thriving business going on. If you happen to be one of the men that avail yourself of these advertised services, and you didn’t already know, I thought I’d better warn you that the girls posting the ads might not be girls, but the San Luis Obispo Police Department instead. Here’s one account of four local guys who answered the wrong ad late last year. There have been others. I wouldn’t answer one of these ads, but I do feel sorry for the men that do (unless you’re married; then get home to your wife!) and get the surprise of their life. Also beware that if it’s not the police, it might be the Johns looking to rob you. And if it’s not the Johns, it might be the disease. If it just were legal…but that’s another story. Be careful.
The Silly, Silly Tribune on American Idol
The Tribune was out with its Bouquets and Brickbats on Friday, and the following was the very last item:
At long last, a new ‘Idol’ is crowned
Local “American Idol” loyalists earn an ultra-long-lasting bouquet for hanging in there for what seemed like an interminable season. We gave up when Australian Michael Johns got the boot.
Now that “A. I.” is over, time to move on. Fergie, anyone?
Huh?

SLO Socialists and Marxists:
Here’s a hero of yours attacking Big Oil
I know many of you in San Luis Obispo lean way, way to the left, and would love the idea of nationalizing the big bad oil companies, whom you idiotically blame for high gas prices (FYI: high prices are a direct result of environmentalists). While the government has not been able to manage anything properly yet, I’m sure you think they can do a bang up job with oil. Have a listen to the always-brilliant, Congresswoman Marxist Maxine Waters telling the evil Big Oil execs how she wants take over their companies, and you’ll get a feel for the intelligence of those who would take control. She is an embarrassment to the nation, along with other California fools like Barbara Boxer, but I’m afraid she is likely a hero of many of you.
